I've been happily employed at my airline since 2013. I have been a Captain since 2015, but after some soul-searching, I decided to pursue a legacy and fly 'The Friendly Skies' of United. The airline industry is very cyclical, and since the pandemic, market forces have put significant pressure on ULCC/LCC airlines. The changing market, RTX engine issues, and oversaturated markets are making it t...

20 Minutes of Power-Off 180ºs in the Pattern before the Storms come in.
Переглядів 3,1 тис.9 днів тому
Took the opportunity this afternoon to do some pattern work before the line of weather moved through The good thing about a poor TAF forecast is it usually means the pattern is empty and I have the local area all to myself. There is something therapautic about mindlessly doing touch & Go's until you get low on gas. When it warm out 99% of my approaches and basically power off 180ºs. In the wint...

Some early morning Club Flying. Low level flying is not for everyone and that's fine. It's something I'll occasionally do early in the morning where nobody else is around. It's a lot of fun and really makes ya feel like a fighter pilot, lol even if you only are doing 70mph. Now, there is an argument that this may be risky if the engine quits but a few things to think about. I'm close enough to ...

Переглядів 3,7 тис.21 день тому
Anna was the last of my four daughters to go flying with me in the family Cub. She was really really afraid at first but shortly after take off she started to like it. By the time we landed I think she really really loved it. Small steps are key. I first started by just bringing her around the airport, then had her sit in the plane, then just Taxi and finally she was ready to at least try it! W...

How to handle 20Kt Crosswinds in the J3 Cub (and how I Stopped myself from potentially Groundlooping
Переглядів 27 тис.Місяць тому
The Cub only weighs 750-ish lbs so any amount of wind could have a big impact on flying the J-3. As long as you are proactive with your flight control input it isn't too overwhelming. Also a good reminder then when the tail stops flying, you better get the tailwheel down or you may find yourself headed for the weeds because you don't have tailwheel steering, and you don't have enough airflow ov...

UA-cam just recommended your channel to me and I can’t tell you how helpful this was as I am at the decision point as a CFI. And you are right across the water from my airport so this advice became incredibly real. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing! Appreciate it!
Congrats on the move. I think it will work out for you in the long run. One thing to be cautious of though is a crazy high percentage of United pilots have been hired in the last 3 years. Alot of very young guys. Also if and when the market tanks the international and premium options are the first to go and that stuff kills the legacies. Hire till they furlough.
Yeah. I thought post Covid the legacies were in for a rough time, lol. I was wrong. I think legacies have done a good job of generating multiple revenue streams vs ulccs. (CCs, business, intl etc). It is pretty frustrating that I’ll be thousands junior to younger, way less experienced guys & girls but thats how it goes, not mad about it but do wish the timing of all Of this was different.
Well yea …. That’s cool … and I want you to live honey . So no .
Bush pilots are another breed and its an uncontrolled private air strip the FAA can go get Fawcked

Didn’t know united hired white men.
I got to ask. Are you taking a 50% cut in salary? How does total compensation work out?
@@Andrew-tb9vr my Current pay rate as a 12yr CA is $308/hr. First year Pay as an F/O is $118/hr-ish at UAL. So at first it’s a massive pay hit, however currently at United (always subject to change) by year 2 you can hold CA (meaning around your one year anniversary), and that pay rate I believe is $343/hr on the 737 (+/- a few bucks). By the end of their current contract it’ll be almost $400/hr. If NK files CH 11 my rate would most likely go from 308 to $250-ish?? (+/- $20) Very hard to say, Just my guess. If NK doesn’t file CH 11 a new CBA with any gains is probably 3-5 years away… also, senior WB F/Os make what I make now as a topped out Spirit CA. Also, at the 121 level it is never a salary. It’s a “base bay of 72” hrs but usually the monthly credit is 80/85hrs or so. Some months more, some months less. Last year when Spirit was short staffed it was pretty easy to credit 120+ hrs a month
Honest question: why would anyone think they could take their seniority with them? Do some airlines allow that?
No, but other industries/trade unions are like that.
You are going from hero, to zero. Upgraded are a lot faster now, that will help. Honestly, I would have stayed at Spirit. It will eventually be merged with another airline, and your union will negotiate a seniority number for you.
Yeah, I think Spirit will end up merging but I think the Business model/ULCC Pilot experience will always be the same. Legacy airlines will ultimately have more to offer. I’m painfully aware of the seniority I’m giving up
@@Bananasssssssss well, only you know what is right for you. When I went to the airlines and in to the reserves, it was a matter of going to whoever would hire you. Southwest hired me, and I decided not to chase airplanes and be content. I retired early due to losing my wife to ALS. I’m just a dad and a farmer, as well as a flight instructor. Here is the thing, you’ll do fine, because you are showing up. Over all, we are in a rut, and people just aren’t trying. I tell my kids never be afraid to go after your dreams, you’ll be one of the few willing to take that chance, and you’ll probably get what you wished for.
Welcome to United Joe. Worked with you at XJT. I think you've made the correct choice. Love your channel.

I saw a video on channel called speedbump garage. Great channel. A kid about 14 coached by his dad. He getting a old ford rancheros running from a junkyard. flat tires barely moved. He got a strike on his channel. against youtube rules. A dad letting his LITTLE GIRL fly a plane. Did he get any strikes.
No, lol. Its not illegal
@@Bananasssssssss My point was why did this kid Get strike on his channel for moving. car that had been sitting in a junkyard for 30 years. the car which had flat tires. As you said its not illegal. But wouldn't be against UA-cam guidelines?

Joe I’ve been watching your videos on Instagram for a while now and didn’t know you had a UA-cam haha, But I just wanted to say congratulations man you deserve it! I’m currently a student pilot in a 141 school and I genuinely love it all. I’m still very new to it all I only have about 26 hr for my private pilot certificate. I look to you and some other aviation creators for inspiration so thank you and I think is never yo late to follow that dream job.

Good for you man!! Follow your heart for sure! Best of luck to you at UA!

I'm working on my commercial right now and can't decide whether or not I should try to join a pipeline program, specifically united aviate or delta propel. I hear a lot of mixed opinions, even from those I know in the programs. With your experience in the industry, I'm curious what your opinion is. Would you join one if you were a commercial student now?
I personally would. The problem now is the last few years Those starting out have gotten spoiled and hired with very minimum experience. The industry is very cyclical and even now looks like its starting to change again. I would personally love to have the insurance of knowing I have a pathway. The only issue is if that airlines “pathway” program, they may not want to hire you outside of that.
How about you let me concentrate so we don’t die and then I’ll give you high-fives, either that or I’ll be flying by myself next time
Back in '82 I had a man from Braniff actually come in and apply for a helicopter pilot position flying offshore oil industry. He had a rotor wing commercial certificate, but he was too long away from the machine. I could have trained him up possibly, but when he saw the salary ummm 🤔 🤯🤯 Well, thanks for your time 👍
